- Text: Stewart, Calculus: Early
Transcendentals,
Fifth Edition, Thomson (Brooks/Cole), 2003. This is a new edition, with
revised problem sets.
- Calculator: Each student will be expected to
have
and use a programmable graphics calculator, preferably Texas
Instruments
TI-85 or TI-86 (the only models with which your instructor and TA are
likely to be familiar).
- Homework: Homework, which will count 5% of your
total grade, is to be written up and handed in each Tuesday at the
beginning of class. A random small number of problems will be graded
and
returned to you at the following Tuesday. No late homework will be
accepted. Current assignments are posted below.
- Quiz: Most quizzes will be given during the TA
session on Mondays. However, there will also be pop up quizzes,
in class, on material just taught and/or straight from the assigned
homework up to that lecture. The worst 3 quiz scores will be dropped
and
the remaining quizzes will contribute 15% of the grade. There will be
no
make-ups for quizzes.
- Course exams: Check the Math 131 Web page
for time and place, including the policy for make-up exams.
