Required textbook
The required textbook from which daily reading will be assigned and from which suggested problems are taken is:
- Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, Lock, Flath et al., Applied Calculus, 3rd edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2006.
This is available from the Textbook Annex in either a shrink-wrapped, loose-leaf page custom version (packaged with a Student Solutions Manual) or a standard bound version.
Calculator
A scientific calculator is required for this course. Furthermore, a graphing calculator is very
strongly recommended as students with a only a scientific calculator will probably be at a
disadvantage on MT2 and the Final. The instructors and the TAs can provide assistance with
any of the Texas Instruments TI-8x calculators where x = 2, 3, 3plus, 5, 6 or 9. For other
graphing calculators we can probably assist you if you also bring the Manual for that calculator.
For students expecting to take a substantial amount of post-calculus mathematics we recommend
a TI-89 or one of the TI-9y series calculators.
