Math 612: Algebra II

Classes: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:10AM - 11:00AM in LGRT 1322.
Review session: Wednesdays 4:15PM in LGRT 1334.
Office hours: Mondays 4:00PM-5:00PM and Thursdays 4:15PM-5:15PM, in my office LGRT 1235H. (I'll also have office hours on Wednesday 4:15PM-5:15PM instead of the review session when homework is not due.)

Homeworks will be assigned every 2 weeks and posted on this page. They will be discussed in the review session.

HW1 Due Wednesday 2/9/11.
HW2 Due Wednesday 2/23/11.
HW3 Due Wednesday 3/23/11.
HW4 Due Wednesday 4/13/11.
HW5 Due Wednesday 4/27/11.
HW6 (will not be graded).
Final Exam Due Monday 5/9/11.

Exams: There will be one midterm exam and one final exam. The midterm exam will be held at 7PM on Thursday 3/24/11 in LGRT 1234. The final exam will be a take home exam distributed on Monday 5/2/11 and due on Monday 5/9/11.
The algebra sequence 611--612 is also assessed via the algebra qualifying exam. General information. Syllabus.

Grading: Your course grade will be computed as follows: Homework 30%, Midterm 30%, Final 40%.

Overview of course

This course is a continuation of Math 611. Topics covered will include Galois Theory, commutative algebra, and representation theory of finite groups. See also the syllabus for the algebra qualifying exam here.
