Dissertation
I am currently in my fifth and final year of a PhD program in the math department here at UMASS. My advisor is Prof. Luc Rey-Bellet, and my other committee members are Markos Katsoulakis, Richard Ellis, and Jon Machta.
We are working on problems in statistical (quantum) mechanics. In particular, problems related to the establishment of a large deviation principle for a Gibbs state of a quantum lattice spin system. This is a result whose classical version is known, but the quantum analog has yet to be made rigorous.
Other Math Interests
I'm a big aficionado of math history, having given several talks on various topics. I recommend Journey Thru Genius, and the other three titles by Dr. William Dunham.
I like programming, especially in C++ and Matlab. I programmed extensively as an undergraduate, but haven't had as many chances to program recently.
I love lateral thinking puzzles, and have a bunch of them on my website.
