Course Structure and Grading Policies:
- There will be two types of regular homework assignments:
- Online homework sets through WebWork. Students will
be introduced to WebWork in the first week of classes.
Your scores in the online homework will account for 15% of your final grade.
- Homework assigned from the textbook. This homework will
not be collected but at least one of the problems will appear in the
weekly quiz.
- There will be weekly quizzes (usually on Friday). The
lowest two scores will be dropped. Quiz scores will account for 15% of the final grade. The
quiz will typically consist of two problems and at least one of them
will be from the textbook homework.
- There will be two hour-exams and a final exam. The lowest
hour-exam will count for 20% of the
final grade and the other two exams will count for 25% of the final grade. The
hour-exams will take place in the evening. Tentative dates are: Tu. Oct. 13 (Monday schedule) and Mon. Nov.
23. The final exam
will be
comprehensive, although weighted towards the material not covered in
the hour-exams. You must take the
final exam during the scheduled time except in case of conflict with
another exam or if you have three exams during the same day.
