Receiving credit and exemption for Calculus I (Math 131)
Any student who earns a score of 4 or 5 on the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) Advanced Placement Calculus AB Test will automatically receive 4 credits and exemption from Calculus I (Math 131) as soon as the registrar receives the exam report from the College Board.
Any student who has taken calculus in high school but either has not taken an AP exam, or else has taken one of these exams, but failed to earn a score of 4 or 5, can earn credit for Math 131 by passing with a grade of C or better, the first time it is taken, a college calculus course equivalent to Math 132. To receive this credit the student must report to the Mathematics Advising Office after passing the course.
Note that if you choose to take the credits for Math 131, you cannot also take Math 131 for credit at UMass.
Receiving credit and exemption for Calculus I and II (Math 131 and 132)
Any student who earns a score of 4 or 5 on the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) Advanced Placement Calculus BC Test will automatically receive 8 credits and exemption from Calculus I and II (Math 131 and 132) as soon as the registrar receives the exam report from the College Board.
Any student who has taken calculus in high school and thoroughly covered the material in Calculus II (including integration, sequences and series, polar coordinates, and parametrization) can earn credit for both Math 131 and Math 132 by first passing a short exam on the Math 132 material and then passing with a grade of C or better, the first time it is taken, a college calculus course equivalent to Math 233. To receive this credit the student must report to the Mathematics Advising Office after passing the course.
Note that if you choose to take the credits for Math 131 and 132, you cannot take either Math 131 or Math 132 for credit at UMass.

Approval of Courses To Be Taken at Other Universities: Current students wishing to take a course during the summer months or while on leave from the University at another college or university must complete the Prior Approval form before they enroll in the course and then bring the form to the Mathematics Advising Office.

Approval of Courses Taken Before Entering the University: If you are a new student or a transfer student and have taken a math or statistics course elsewhere for which you wish to receive University credit, first make sure the course has transferred over to UMass. Then, to have it assigned to a specific UMass course, please contact the Chief Undergraduate Advisor and bring along your course syllabus and, if possible, a copy of the course's final exam.

Study Abroad Course Approval: Students planning to study abroad will need to have courses preapproved. The Internation Programs Office will help you get started and then the Chief Undergraduate Officer will assist you in filling out the International Course Approval Form (ICAF).
