NEW M.S. Option in Statistics at Newton Satellite Campus (Boston Area), Evening Degree: Starting Fall 2019

Note: we are now accepting applications for the Fall 2020 class.

Starting Fall 2019, the M.S. option in Statistics will also be offered at the UMass-Amherst satellite campus in Newton (just outside Boston), with entirely evening classes. All requirements are the same as for the Amherst campus, except that students admitted to this program will take courses entirely at the satellite Newton campus. Note that the degree earned will be listed as the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

*Please note, for Fall 2019, only domestic students are eligible for instruction on the Newton campus.


The courses offered at the Newton Mount Ida campus in Fall 2019 are the following:

  • Stat 535: Statistical Computing
  • Stat 607: Mathematical Statistics I
  • Stat 625: Regression Modeling

-These courses appear on Spire as "Section 2" for the Newton Mount Ida campus location.

The courses offered in Spring 2020 at the Newton Mount Ida campus are the following:

  • Stat 526: Design of Experiments
  • Stat 608: Mathematical Statistics II
  • Stat 697DS: Statistical Methods for Data Science

Students can also take courses in other graduate programs such as Geosciences and Business & Analytics at the Newton Mount Ida campus that count toward electives for the M.S. option in Statistics.
