Undergraduate internship opportunity (Posted 9-16-2009)

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to let you know of an opportunity that I hope you will share
with your undergraduate majors.

Once again, the Massachusetts Academy of Sciences is offering its Science
Outreach Internship through the Biology department, Biology 398D. Students
earn 3 credits and gain invaluable experience in science outreach and
education. While the course is geared towards science, the purpose of the
MAS is to make science more accessible to everyone else and thus non-science
majors are encouraged to participate. The course teaches students to develop
science outreach materials, including video and audio podcasts, blogs, and
hands-on classroom demonstrations. They use multimedia techniques to develop
content for the MAS website, http://www.massacadsciences.org. They will also
participate in science outreach activities, including visits to elementary
schools to promote science.

The experience of previous students has been quite positive, and of course
if there are any questions they can send me an email at
cody@massacadsciences.org. If you are interested in participating in this
class, please email me with your name and Spire ID. For more information,
visit http://www.massacadsciences.org/home/volunteer/umass-
student-volunteer-opportunities or email me with questions!

Class starts on Monday September 21st at 10:30AM-12 noon. The course will
meet in Morrill IV South Room 370, (BCRC).

Thanks so much for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon!
