  • CONFIGURING YOUR MAIL CLIENT (MacMail & Thunderbird):

  • WHAT IF I'M AT A HOTEL OR AIRPORT KIOSK?

This can be a problem as you may not have the necessary privileges to alter public machines. Often, for security purposes, the site may have restricted the opening of various mail ports. In this case you do have other options. If the SSH client is installed on the system, you may log into one of our remote servers and use the Unix based mail client such as pine or elm. Please refer to the document Logging Into Math Department Computers for more information.

  • SSH Over the WEB:

If your system does not have SSH installed, there is yet another option called SSH Over the WEB. Simply click on the URL you see here or enter the URL directly on your browser of choice http://www.math.umass.edu/ssh2. This will initiate a connection to the server sine where you simply input your account/user-name and password. Once logged in, you may read mail via pine or elm, or perform another ssh to your personal department system or other lab systems. Please refer to the document Logging Into Math Department Computers for more information.
